Octagon shaped Hotels used In Patent Pending sets

The use of Octagon Hotels resulted in a discussion with the Yahoo Monopoly Collectors Group now the Facebook Vintage Monopoly Game Collectors 1933 - 1955. That discussion centered around the reason for the usage by Parker Brothers of the Octagon Hotels. Apparently, there was a shortage of standard wood hotels because of the rapid increase in popularity of Monopoly. This forced Parker Brothers to use a temporary replacement.

Several Patent Pending Games have surfaced which included the Octagon Hotels - and this is rare! But, this Wood Octagon shape is not exclusive to Monopoly as they can easily be found in other early games including Bingo. And to double check that the Octagon Hotels used in Patent Pending games were the same as used in Bingo, I purchased a Bingo set with 75 Octagon tokens and they are an exact match to the ones used in Monopoly.

With all this information, the difficult part of this issue, is if you find a set with Octagon Hotels, is determining if they are original to the set or an add-on.

Including Octagon Hotels, this shortage also led to the temporary usage of Round Houses and Hotels in some Patent Pending and 1,509,312 Patent Sets.
